Recently, I was mailed a copy of CSB Women’s Study Bible. I don’t know about you, but I love getting my hands on different translations of the Bible. I enjoy reading through the various interpretations of Scripture. Different translations bring clarity to certain passages better than others, and this is no exception. But don’t take my word for it! Enter to win a copy of this beautiful Bible here. While you wait to find out if you’ve won, you can read through my honest review of this beautiful edition below.
As a kid, I used to get down the Strong’s Concordance and look up random words. Now that I’m an adult, I hop onto Bible Gateway to seek out specific words. You can imagine my excitement when I flipped to the back of the CSB Women’s Study Bible and found a pretty thorough concordance. It not only provides the reference, it also gives a brief synopsis of the verse.
#2 Graphs & Charts
If you read my last study Bible review, then you know I love charts. Visual aids are a powerful way to internalize the bigger picture of Scripture. This study Bible does an excellent job presenting important information in easy-to-understand charts. Such as this one, which breaks down the various offerings from Leviticus.
#3 Word Studies, Hard Questions & Doctrinal Notes
Throughout the CSB Women’s Study Bible, important words are defined through Scriptural context. These micro-studies are frequently placed throughout the text. The brief synopsis expounds on the wording found in the original text and provides references for further study.
The Hard Questions scattered throughout are really thought-provoking. I appreciate the publisher’s willingness to include these, as several of the questions would receive backlash from pop culture. As with everything else, these brief Q&A spotlights are heavily rooted in Scripture.
The publisher also includes doctrinal notes, to help the reader further understand key concepts. (I.e. Hell, The Work of the Holy Spirit, Attributes of God) I am impressed by the Biblical foundation of these doctrinal sections. I don’t get the impression that the publisher is trying to push a certain denominational bent. Instead, these valuable pieces condense topics spread throughout the text.
#4 Character Profiles
Scattered throughout the text are character profiles. These helpful additions provide a brief snapshot of key people throughout Scripture. They give a quick background, life overview, and key lessons to draw from the person’s life.
Easy to Read
The CSB Women’s Study Bible is a straightforward translation. As this video shares, it’s an even blend of accuracy and simple language. Struggling and proficient readers alike will get a lot out of this version.
The binding of this Bible resembles an antique book. The functional design would look great on a bookshelf or coffee table.
If you flip all the way to the back of the CSB Women’s Study Bible, you’ll find a set of beautiful maps. Periodically throughout the text, you’ll find them, as well! The timelines are another bonus that I really appreciate. Seeing the breakdown of when things took place helps to bring perspective. The intros to each book are also worth mentioning. These brief sections set the stage for the upcoming book and pull out some of the more prominent themes.
This wouldn’t be a thorough, honest review if I didn’t share my critiques.
My biggest complaint is the lack of space in the margins. As you may have seen on our instagram profile, writing comments in my Bible is a big part of my study method. I love the ongoing record of my observations right alongside the text and this Bible does not provide space to do that.
If you read my last Bible review, you’ll notice a comment on how much the Bible weighs. As I am no longer traveling on a regular basis, the weight is not as much of a factor for me. It is something to be aware of it you take your Bible with you places. I would not want to put this Bible in my bag and take it with me every day. Not only is it a bit heavy, mostly due to all the wonderful commentary included, it is also large. That being said, I really like the format of this Bible and would be willing to take it with me to specific things. (I.e. Bible study at a coffee shop, lifegroup)
All in all, I am really impressed with the CSB Women’s Study Bible. I plan to incorporate this Bible into my regular study routine and would recommend it to women looking for a Bible to help them dig deep.
As I mentioned at the beginning, you have an opportunity to win one of seven copies of this Bible! All you have to do is click here and provide your name and email address.
