Oh boy, does stress leave its mark or what? Backaches, premature aging, weight gain, infertility, heart disease, irritability and so many other side effects come along with this unwanted addition to our lives. Whether we like it or not, we are faced with stress everywhere we turn. And for many of us, the idea of living a low-stress lifestyle is laughable. Today, I want to offer you five tactics to change that. You’ll also discover a free, downloadable action plan and personal assessment at the end of this post. You don’t have to be bogged down by stress anymore!
Tactic #1: Get In The Word
We should never underestimate the power of God in our lives. (Wondering if your spirit is being neglected? Discover the signs here.) Personally, I did that for a long time. Devotional times were few and far between. It wasn’t until I began to view time in my Bible and in God’s presence as a vital part of my daily life that things started to get easier. Now, I make time with God a priority. Not because I want to be a religious junky, but because I’ve noticed a difference in my entire outlook when I give him precedence. Prayer time has revolutionized my day. What once was a mundane task is now the most meaningful part of my morning!
Tactic #2: Get Rid Of Stuff
It’s amazing how clutter can subtly make our already stressful lives ten times more stressful. Growing up, my mom always claimed to have the “Clutter Disease.” Fictional name, but a very real “disorder” in many people’s lives, it wasn’t until I reevaluated my own habit to hoard that I realized just how much things were affecting my wellbeing. I’d never quality to feature on the TV series, but even a small preference toward keeping unnecessary things can have a huge impact!
It can be really hard to let go of items, but it’s important to remember that there are many benefits to letting go of unneeded things. Don’t let the lie that maybe one day you’ll need this item be the reason you don’t let go and move on from clutter. (For a complete guide on decluttering, click here.)
Tactic #3: Get Out Of Activities
This should be a no-brainer, but when we feel stressed we should make simplifying life a top priority. It’s never okay to be stretched thin for fear that we might “miss out” or that our children will be lacking from one less activity. Having fewer commitments is actually a very healthy lifestyle! It not only gives us more time with the ones we love but also lets us recharge. I’ve been amazed at how simplifying life has made me a more pleasant individual. I never realized how much stress I was under while constantly on the go!

Tactic #4: Get Off Gluten
Recently, there have been breakthroughs for people who suffer from depression and anxiety. Crazy enough, gluten is a big trigger to mental health issues. You might not realize just how must gluten is impacting your life, but go off it for a while and I’m sure you’ll see a difference! Not only will you find greater mental clarity, but also relief from a lot of pain or allergy symptoms you may be experiencing. And who doesn’t love clearer skin? You might not have an allergy or sensitivity to it, per say, but your body, and stress level, will thank you if you give yourself a break now and then.
Tactic #5: Get Out Of Town
When all else fails, pack your bags and get out of town! Thanks to some pretty amazing airline prices, it’s easier than ever to get away for a week or just the weekend.
